The Elegant Lutino Rainbow Lorikeet.

This perticular bird is a young Lutino Single Factor Pied.

We have been working with this colour since 2003 and have combined the already beatifull lutino colour with the Double Factor Pied colour.

This will give the bird a butter cup yellow colour when we get to the reverse Pied level.

In 2010 we bred our first Double Factor Pied lutino hen bird which was bred by a Split Lutino SF Pied cock bird and a Lutino SF Pied hen bird.

Here we have a Single Factor ( SF ) Lutino Pied showing the Pied markings in the underwing section.

With the Pied gene you will find absence of red pigmentation to the red under feathering.

The stronger the Pied gene the less red colouring will be present as in the case of the DF Lutino Pied hen bird below

The under wing colour of Pied type birds always told us a story, the less red colouring the more the Pied gene is present.

The head feathers also have started to go redder then that from a normal Lutino bird.

This close up photo of the six month old Lutino DF Pied hen bird gives you a better view of the darker buttercup yellow Pied feathering coming through the wing feathers.

Below we have a young SF lutino Pied hen still to colour up but the unusual white head and abdomen colouration is said to relate back to a Jade mutation.

We haven't been able to prove that so far and could more likely relate back to the Aqua mutation.

The Lutino colour is a
Sexlinked mutation

The Lutino sex-linked gene works as follows:

This gene is a little hard to get your head around, but if read often enough it will make sense.

Remember this :
the Female can not be split for the colour,
only the Male can be split.

Lutino Male X Normal Female = split Lutino Males & Lutino Females

Normal/ Split Lutino Males X Normal Female = Lutino Females, Normal Females And possible Split / Lutino Males.
These males will need to be test bred to see if they are split Lutino.

Normal Male X Lutino Female = Normal / split Lutino Males & Normal Females

Normal/ Split Lutino Males X Lutino Females = Normal / split Lutino Males, Lutino Males, Lutino Females, Normal Females

Lutino Males X Lutino Females = Lutino Males, Lutino Females.

Lutino Male X DF Pied Female = Split Lutino Males & Lutino Females.

Normal/ Split Lutino Males X Normal Female = Lutino Females, Normal Females And possible Split / Lutino Males.
These males will need to be test bred to see if they are split Lutino.

Normal Male X Lutino Female = Normal / split Lutino Males & Normal Females

Normal/ Split Lutino Males X Lutino Females = Normal / split Lutino Males Lutino Males Lutino Females Normal Females

Lutino Males X Lutino Females = Lutino Males Lutino Females.

Clear as mud like I told you, read again and again.
