 Young Blue Fronted Amazons

 Young Blue Fronted Amazons
breeding program

We have different blood lines in the 'Amazona Aestiva Aestiva' as well as 'Amazona Aestiva Xanthopteryx' or Yellow-winged subspecies breeding program.

The Blue-fronted Amazon is a very inquisitive bird and an excellent talker and whistler. This family group is active and comical and interacts a lot within its species and with its human counterpart.

Because of its social make up they make excellent pets and are one of the most popular kept pet bird in America and in Europe.

It has been in aviculture for many years overseas, unlike here in Australia, where we have had the pleasure of enjoying these birds from 1992 in a larger scale.

In 1992 the borders were opened up with the legal importation of some three species of macaws which was the start of the importation of currently the 129 species of exotic parrots.

Current National regulations require paperwork on CITES I and II exotic parrots.

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments that aims to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.

The Blue-fronted Amazon is CITES II classified.

A lot of work needs to be done to secure the safe level of numbers in this country and we hope to help by doing our bit with the Blue-fronted Amazons and other species of Amazons so they can be in this country for generations to come.
